Knights Fall to PawSox 6-5 on Saturday

(PAWTUCKET, RI) -- The Charlotte Knights brought the tying run to first base and the go-ahead run to the plate in the top of the ninth inning, but dropped game two of their three-game series against the Pawtucket Red Sox by a score of 6-5 on Saturday evening from McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket, RI. The Knights rallied for one run in the final frame, but fell short for the second time in as many days to the PawSox.

Third baseman Patrick Leonard continued his solid second half of the season. Leonard went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. His three-run blast in the top of the second inning tied the game at 4-4. It was his eighth home run of the season.

The Knights combined to tally a game-high 11 hits. Outfielder Eloy Jiménez, the top prospect in the Chicago White Sox system, extended his hit streak to eight consecutive games. Outfielder Trayce Thompson, shortstop José RondÏŒn, and second baseman Jake Elmore all had two hits apiece.

Charlotte RHP Asher Wojciechowski (5-5, 3.81) made his team debut and was charged with the loss after he allowed five runs on six hits over five innings. RHP Carson Fulmer did not allow a run in relief (1.2 IP), while LHP Aaron Bummer allowed one run on three hits over 1.1 innings pitched.

LHP Josh D. Smith (6-5, 3.34) earned the win for Pawtucket. Reliever Williams Jerez allowed a run in the ninth, but notched his fifth save of the season.

The Knights will conclude their three-game series against the Pawtucket Red Sox (Triple-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox) on Sunday afternoon.
