Pigs Slug Five Homers in Doubleheader Sweep
July 28, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
The IronPigs scored a grand total of 18 runs en route to a doubleheader sweep of the Columbus Clippers on Saturday. The Pigs took game one 8-5, and won game two 10-5. The pair of wins pushes Lehigh Valley to a season high 24 games above the .500 mark, and back to their franchise-record eight games ahead of the rest of the IL-North Division.
The Clippers dominated Jacob Waguespack (3-5) in the first inning of game one. Columbus scored five runs, with most coming from a grand slam by Yu Chang. Jacob quickly put that inning behind him, however, and kept the Clippers off of the scoreboard the rest of the way.
The IronPigs offense needed a couple of innings to warm up, but eventually battled back to take the lead with eight unanswered runs. Mitch Walding provided most of the power with a pair of three-run home runs. Walding has now logged three games with multiple home runs in his last seven tries. The newfound three-run lead was more than enough for Hector Neris to pick up his first save with the Pigs this season.
Lehigh Valley wasted no time continuing the onslaught in game two. Walding slugged his third home run of the day, while Dylan Cozens launched two of his own in the first two innings, as the Pigs chased Myles Jaye out of the game by scoring nine runs through only four outs.
Drew Anderson was more than grateful for the hefty lead, as the right-hander was able to throw five innings on only 66 pitches while allowing only two runs and striking out four to pick up his seventh win this season.
The Pigs now have an opportunity to sweep the series tomorrow afternoon as they face Columbus for the final time this season. Enyel De Los Santos will try to pick up his tenth win of the season when first pitch comes at 1:35 p.m. Sunday is the FeRROUS and FeFe Birthday Celebration presented by St. Luke's University Health Network, and kids can run the bases at Coca-Cola Park after the game, presented by Lehigh Valley Children's Hospital.
The 2018 Season is the IronPigs' 11th season at Coca-Cola Park and 11th as the top affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies.
