NORFOLK, Va. - The Louisville Bats (9-16) dropped their fifth straight game and third in a row to the Norfolk Tides (15-11) by an 8-3 score Saturday night at Harbor Park. The loss marks the 10th time this season that Louisville has lost a game in which they scored first.

Louisville made a season-high five errors in the loss tonight, spoiling left-hander Cody Reed's best start of the season. Reed (0-0, 2.25) pitched 5.0 scoreless innings, giving up five hits while walking three and striking out six, throwing a season-high 92 pitches and 57 strikes.

The Bats struck first on a Brandon Dixon solo home run in the top of the fourth, his second of the season. Dixon is batting .312 (24-for-77) on the season, leading the team with eight doubles and six stolen bases.

Louisville extended its lead to 2-0 in the sixth, before left-hander Kyle Crockett surrendered three unearned runs as the result of a throwing error by second baseman Hernan Iribarren. The Bats would tie it up 3-3 in the top of the seventh on Cliff Pennington's first RBI in a Louisville uniform, a sacrifice fly that scored Blake Trahan.

The home half of the seventh was when everything broke loose for Louisville's defense, as Tyler Goeddel's second error of the night allowed Norfolk to take a 4-3 lead. The Tides' Audry Perez followed that play with a two-run home run to make it a 6-3 game, with Alex Presley reaching base on the Bats' fifth error of the night right after the Perez homer. Sharlon Schoop followed with a two-run homer, providing the Tides with an 8-3 lead that proved to be insurmountable for the Bats.

The Bats drop to a season-worst seven games below .500 at 9-16 and are in danger of being swept in a series for the first time this season. Louisville will look to avoid the sweep tomorrow at 1:05 p.m. on getaway day with right-hander Robert Stephenson (1-3, 4.94) taking the ball for the Bats, set to face off against Norfolk right-hander and former Louisville Bat, Tim Melville (3-0, 3.22).
