August 5, 2022 - International League (IL)
Louisville Bats News Release
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. - The Louisville Bats (42-60) couldn't muster much offense and were bested 6-1 by the Indianapolis Indians (49-51) on Friday night at Victory Field.
Indianapolis tallied the first runs of the game, scoring two runs on three hits with two outs in the home half of the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead.
Louisville answered in the top of third to cut the Indians lead in half. Miguel Hernandez kicked the inning off with a single to center field. Two batters later, TJ Friedl doubled into the right center alley to put two runners in scoring position for Alejo Lopez who brought Hernandez home with a groundout to second base to cut into the deficit, down 2-1 through three innings.
The Bats threatened again in the top of the fifth, when Hernandez, Friedl and Lopez each drew a walk to load the bases with two outs, but the threat would come to pass with no damage done.
In the bottom of the inning, the Indians tacked on two more runs to extend their lead to 4-1 through five innings of play.
Indianapolis broke the game open in the home half of the eighth, scoring two more runs on a two-run home run to push its lead to 6-1. The Bats got a baserunner on in the ninth but couldn't bring him around as they fell to the Indians 6-1.
The Bats and Indians will continue their series tomorrow night with game six. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm E.T. as lefty Justin Nicolino (2-4, 5.78) will take the mound for Louisville while right-hander Mike Burrows (0-2, 5.33) will make the start for Indianapolis.
