DES MOINES, IA - The Toledo Mud Hens suffered a loss to the Iowa Cub 5-4 on Friday night.
The Mud Hens scored first on a sacrifice fly by Andre Lipcius in the 2nd inning to go up 1-0. Brendon Davis drew a bases-loaded walk in the 3rd inning, scoring Zack Short making it 2-0. The Cubs scored one in the 4th inning to make it 2-1. Spencer Torkelson hit a leadoff solo home run to open the 5th inning, making it 3-1. Dustin Garneau took a hit by pitch with the bases loaded, scoring Kerry Carpenter to make it 4-1 in the 7th inning. The Cubs would score two in the 7th inning and two more in the 8th inning for a comeback victory over the Hens.
The Mud Hens tallied six hits and nine walks as a team. Torkelson led the way with two hits, those being his home run and a double, with an RBI and a walk. Jamie Westbrook also tallied two hits and a walk. Carpenter tallied a double, a walk and a run scored. Short also tallied a hit, walked and scored. Lipcius and Garneau each recorded an RBI. Davis recorded two walk and an RBI. Ryan Kreidler tallied two walks and Josh Lester tallied one walk.
Beau Brieske made the start for the Mud Hens as part of his rehab assignment for the Detroit Tigers. Brieske pitched 4.1 innings, allowing one run on three hits and eight strikeouts. Nick Vincent *pitched 0.2 inning, notching a walk and a strikeout. *Drew Carlton picked up his 5th hold, pitching 2.0 innings, allowing two runs on two hits and one strikeout. Miguel Diaz collected his 5th blown save and his 4th loss, falling to 4-4 on the season. Diaz pitched 0.1 inning, allowing two runs on two hits. Miguel Del Pozo pitched the final 0.2 inning, allowing one hit and one strikeout.
What's Next - The Toledo Mud Hens remain in Iowa for game six of the seven-game series, with first pitch coming at 7:08 pm EST (6:08 CT).
