Matt Dermody Named International League Pitcher of the Month

DES MOINES, IA - Today, Minor League Baseball named Iowa Cubs pitcher Matt Dermody International League Pitcher of the Month for the month of July.
In five games including three starts, Dermody went 3-0 with a 0.77 ERA, allowing opponents to hit just .188 against him. He scattered 16 hits and six walks over his 23.1 innings pitched, allowing just two earned runs while striking out 26 batters along the way.
Prior to getting his contract selected by Chicago on August 4, the southpaw led Iowa in wins (6) and innings pitched (79.1), placing second on the team in strikeouts with 70 for the year.
The Norwalk native was 6-3 with a 3.74 ERA over 20 games with the I-Cubs prior to his promotion. The 32-year-old was originally selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 28th round of the 2013 MLB Draft out of the University of Iowa.
The Iowa Cubs will continue their homestand against Toledo through Sunday, August 7 and stay at Principal Park for a six-game series against Louisville from August 9-14. For more information and tickets, visit www.iowacubs.com.
