Indianapolis Indians News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - Roansy Contreras recorded nine of his 12 outs via strikeout, and the Indianapolis Indians pitching staff struck out a season-high 16 Louisville Bats in their 6-1 victory on Friday night.
Contreras set the tone for the Indians (50-51) with 4.0 one-run innings, allowing only three hits without issuing a walk. Nick Mears, Travis MacGregor (W, 1-1) and Joe Jacques (S, 2) combined to shut down Louisville's (42-61) offense in 6.0 scoreless frames.
The Indians offense opened up an early lead with two runs in the first inning off Louisville's starting pitcher, Brandon Williamson (L, 1-3). Back-to-back RBI singles by Brendt Citta and Mason Martin scored Diego Castillo and Jack Suwinski, respectively.
After Louisville brought home their lone run of the contest in the third, Indy responded with three doubles in another two-run inning in the fifth. Citta doubled, and Martin and Jared Oliva followed with a pair of RBI doubles to extend the lead, 4-1.
Hoy Park launched a two-run homer in the eighth to tally additional insurance runs and make it 6-1.
Park, Castillo, Citta and Martin each had multi-hit performances as the Indians clubbed 12 hits. Rodolfo Castro extended his hitting streak to eight games.
The Indians and Bats will play the fifth game of the seven-game set at Victory Field on Saturday with first pitch slated for 7:05 PM ET. RHP Mike Burrows (0-2, 5.33) will toe the rubber for the Indians while Louisville will counter with LHP Justin Nicolino (2-4, 5.76).
