Bats Come Alive in Opening Night Victory

TROY, NY - Offense was no issue in the ValleyCats home opener Friday night, as they mashed 14 hits en route to a 13-1 victory over the Connecticut Tigers on Opening Night.

Stephen Wrenn led off the game with a 385 ft. solo homerun to left field in the top of the first inning to get the scoring started. The 'Cats picked up another run in the second on a sac fly from Brauly Mejia, before the bats exploded in the final four innings.

Tri-City hit four doubles in the fifth inning, scoring four runs, including a 2-RBI double from Daz Cameron, who reached base four times. Randy Cesar picked up an RBI-single in the sixth, and Carmen Benedetti singled in Kolbey Carpenter, loading the bases.

Taylor Jones followed with a line drive 386 ft. grand slam homerun to left field, pushing the run total to 13.

Not to be outdone was starting pitcher Akeem Bostick, who picked up the win, allowing only two hits and striking out two over six innings pitched, using only 70 pitches. Bostick, on a rehab stint from the Lancaster JetHawks, is scheduled for one more start before rejoining the Class-A Advanced affiliate.

Sebastian Kessay, who faced 15 batters over the final three innings, picked up the save in relief, striking out seven.

Connecticut sent six pitchers to the mound, who combined for six walks and six strikeouts.

Game 2 will be tomorrow night, June 18, with first pitch scheduled for 7:00 against the Connecticut Tigers.
