San Jose Barracuda News Release
Tucson, AZ - The San Jose Barracuda (9-2-0-1) suffered their first road loss of the season and their first shutout defeat as the Tucson Roadrunners (8-3-0-1) potted a pair of power-play goals en route to a 5-0 win.
Jayden Halbgewachs was forced to take a slashing penalty on a Tucson odd-man rush at 6:28 of the first, and on the power play former 'Cuda forward Adam Helewka (6) made San Jose pay as he snapped a left-point shot past Josef Korenar at 7:48. The Roadrunners would add to their lead at full strength when Michael Bunting (4) tipped a Jordan Gross shot just under the crossbar and in at 17:03. After 20, San Jose trailed 2-0 and were outshot 17-to-2 in the frame.
In the second, Nick DeSimone was called for a five-minute major penalty for a hit to the head of Tucson's Cam Dineen, and on the power-play, a failed clearing attempt by San Jose led to David Ullstrom threading a pass to Helewka (6) who fired it into an open net. San Jose went on the power play twice late in the second but failed to cut into Tucson's lead.
In the third, the Barracuda began the frame on the power play but again couldn't muster any offense and at 14:39 Ullstrom (5) would make it 4-0 Roadrunners before Lane Pederson (3) would seal the victory after receiving a pass uncovered in the slot from Jenz Looke at 17:52.
Josef Korenar (5-1-0-0) suffered his first loss after allowing five goals on 38 shots, while Merrick Madsen (2-1-0-0) earned his first AHL shutout by making 19 saves.
