Belleville Senators News Release

The Toronto Marlies beat the Belleville 8-2 in the second game of a back-to-back between the two Ontario rivals.

Filip Gustavsson made 33 saves for the Senators while Drake Batherson and Andreas Englund had goals. Carl Grundstrom(2), Josh Jooris, Chris Mueller, Jordan Subban, Sam Gagner, Trevor Moore and Adam Cracknell scored for the Marlies while Eamon McAdam stopped 23 shots.

The Marlies pressured the majority of the first period and it finally paid off with two goals in 27 seconds towards the end of the frame as Jooris notched his third of the season as he banged in a rebound after Colin Greening's initial shot on an odd-man rush was turned aside by Gustavsson. It was 2-0 at 16:46 as Grundstrom's fourth of the season came from in-close as he got his stick on a loose puck.

After Rasmus Sandin rang the post early in the second, the Marlies added to their lead at 7:53 as Mueller tip in Timothy Liljegren's point shot for his fourth of the season.

Belleville got on the board at 9:14 on the power play as Batherson wristed home his seventh of the year from the slot after taking a nice drop pass by Andrew Sturtz.

The Marlies pushed its lead to 4-1 by the end of the second through Subban as his second of the season came on a low wrister that beat Gustavsson glove side.

Grundstrom's second of the evening made it 5-1 just 1:43 into the third as his one-timer off of Andreas Borgman's pass found the back of the net before Gagner beat Gustavsson with 11:15 remaining on the power play from the left faceoff circle as he was left all alone after the puck bounced through to the veteran NHL forward.

Moore made it 7-1 just 44 seconds later on the doorstep as he bashed in a rebound for his ninth of the season. Englund, playing in his 150th career AHL game, grabbed his second of the season on a wrister that passed by traffic to get Belleville's second goal but Toronto pushed the lead to 8-2 with 7:48 to play through Cracknell's third of the year.

The Sens are back in action Wednesday as they host the Utica Comets, AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks, for the first time this season. Tickets are available.
