San Diego Gulls News Release
The Gulls opened a season-long five-game homestand with a 4-3 win over the Colorado Eagles in front of a sellout crowd (12,920) at Valley View Casino Center.
Ben Thomson scored his third goal of the season at the 5:07 mark of the second period to open the scoring. Simon Benoit tallied the lone assist, his fourth this season.
Sam Carrick scored his team-leading sixth goal at 8:26 of the second period. Carrick also added an assist and now co-leads San Diego with 11 points (6-5=11).

Troy Terry netted his fourth goal of the season at the 6:37 mark of the third period. The goal extended his club record point streak to begin an AHL career to seven games (4-6=10). Terry's seven-game point streak is the longest point streak by an AHL rookie this season.
Kalle Kossila tallied the primary assist on Terry's goal, his fifth point in as many games this season (3-2=5). Jaycob Megna also earned an assist on Terry's goal, his second in as many games (0-2=2).

The Gulls will continue the season-long homestand and conclude a back-to-back matchup against the Colorado Eagles tomorrow night at Valley View Casino Center (7 p.m.).
POSTGAME QUOTES
San Diego Gulls
Chase De Leo
On the win
It's huge. Obviously that's a good team, they're a fast-paced team. We're trying to be a fast-paced team, too. Games like that are going to happen when they're two quick teams playing against each other, exchanging chances. Obviously we would like to limit their chances a little more but I thought we had a full team effort. Our defense did a good job and our penalty kill was pretty good.
On his game-winning goal
(Sam) Carrick was good on the forecheck and Tropp laid the body. The puck bounced right to Carrick and he tapped it to me. I just tried to just get it in the net. I'm happy it went in and happy it helped the team get the win.
On the crowd
The growth of California hockey and the fan support is unbelievable. You saw that firsthand tonight. It's fun to be a part of. Anytime the building is that loud it definitely helps, believe it or not. It definitely made a difference tonight.
Ben Thomson
On the win
We've been playing a lot of games lately where we were in the game right until the end, but we couldn't find a way to squeeze out a win. To do it after a couple game skid and at home in front of our fans, to get momentum going for the weekend and into next week, it's huge for our confidence as a team and individuals. This is one of the best teams in the league and we know we can play with them and beat them. That's huge for our confidence.
On his goal
We had a good forecheck. We pressured the goalie and the [defense], and they just kind of panicked a little bit and threw it to our point. We've been working on those quick shots from the point all week in practice. I just went to the net and it happened to hit my stick. I'll take those because sometimes they're hard to get.
On the crowd
I've never really played in front of a crowd like that in this league. I think it's special. It's one of those things where you can't take it for granted because this is one of the best crowds in the league. It's special and we have to feed off the energy. Tonight was a great crowd as always and I think we're going to get another big win for them tomorrow night.
Head Coach Dallas Eakins
On the win
This year isn't going to be any different, there's going to be a lot of one-goal games. We have to find a level of comfort with that when the game is tied, we're down by a goal or maybe we're up one. It's a good experience to be in. That was a fast paced game, about as quick as we've seen this year. It was an electric crowd. I really thought our crowd had a real positive effect on our team tonight.
On Sam Carrick
He brings experience. He knows the drill and he's come down with a passion. Seeing him come in after being sent down, sometimes guys come in and they're going through an adjustment. I thought he was one of the best players on the ice tonight. You usually don't see that often when a guy comes down like that. Usually, the guy is down a little bit, maybe he's feeling sorry for himself, or maybe he's extremely peeved off, whatever it is. He put it behind him and I just thought he was a force on the ice tonight.
On the crowd
It was unbelievable. We have two new assistant coaches and one of them just brought it up. That's common here. They were loud. They were pushing along. They were sticking with us, everything that they've always done for us. We're always grateful for that.
