Cleveland Barons News Release

SYRACUSE, NY - Joe Motzko scored three goals for Syracuse as the Crunch defeated the Barons for the second game in as many nights. Tom Cavanagh scored a goal and added an assist for the Barons in a 6-3 loss.

Just as the Crunch did 24-hours earlier they jumped out to a 2-0 lead on the Barons in the opening period. Joe Motzko's power play goal secured the game' s opening tally for Syracuse. Defenseman Andy Canzanello then expanded the Syracuse lead to 2-0 with his fourth tally of the year at the 13:54 mark of the first frame. Peter Sarno assisted on both goals for the Crunch.

The Barons poured on the second period pressure, but still trailed by two goals after forty minutes of play. Cleveland scored back-to-back goals to tie the game at 2-2 before Syracuse answered with two of their own for a 4-2 advantage. Tom Cavanagh and Garrett Stafford scored the goals for the Barons before Syracuse answered with tallies from Joakim Lindstrom and Ben Simon. Lindstrom's goal, assisted by Simon, came while short-handed.

Joe Motzko scored two more goals in the third period to complete a hat trick and secure a 6-3 win over the Barons. Motzko's first of the frame came on a power play extending the Crunch advantage to 5-2. Less than two minutes later, Motzko's third of the night was scored short-handed for a 6-2 lead. Josh Hennessy scored the Barons final goal on a rebound power play strike for his 14th of the season.

The Barons finished a seven game road stretch on Saturday, their longest of the season, with a record of 2-4-1-0.

Wednesday night the Barons return home to host the Omaha Knights in the first of nine consecutive games at National City Rink at the Q. Game time is at 7pm and tickets are on sale now at the Quicken Loans Arena Box Office. For more details on the Barons schedule and promotions, fans can Crash The Net at www.clevelandbarons.net.
