Chicago Dogs News Release
FRANKLIN, Wis. - Keon Barnum belted two homers and Tony Rosselli added another to back a locked-in pitching staff as the Chicago Dogs cruised past the Milwaukee Milkmen, 6-0, on Sunday night.
In their first-ever trip to Routine Field, Chicago served up a complete performance. Justin Goossen-Brown (W, 1-0) was stellar in his second start of the season, allowing eight hits and one walk with four strikeouts over five scoreless frames.
The Dogs wasted little time getting on board as Jordan Dean ripped a bases-clearing double in the top of the first, giving Chicago an early 3-0 advantage off Milkmen starter Kurt Heyer (L, 5-9).
Rosselli then followed suit in the next frame with a solo homer, his twelfth of the year, to make it a four-run lead for the visitors.
Barnum launched his first dinger of the night in the top of the sixth, a solo shot to push the lead to 5-0.
Jalen Miller and Casey Crosby worked shutout frames in the sixth and seventh to maintain the lead for Chicago.
Barnum's second bomb of the night made it 6-0 in the top of the eighth. That moved the Tampa, Florida native into second place on the American Association's all-time single-season home run list with 29 on the year.
The Milkmen loaded the bases off of Daniel Hurtado with two outs in the bottom of the eighth, but Rich Mascheri entered and promptly dished out a three-pitch strikeout to end the scoring threat.
Kyle Halbohn worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning to secure the Dogs' fifth shutout win of the season.
LHP D.J. Snelten (6-3) will get the start for game two of the series tomorrow evening, with first pitch slated for 7:05 PM.
