Barnstormers Steal, Slug Way To Win

May 15, 2015 - Atlantic League (AtL)
Lancaster Stormers News Release

Blake Gailen whacked a three-run homer in the first inning, and the Lancaster Barnstormers swiped a franchise record six bases in a 6-2 victory over the Long Island Ducks Friday evening at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

The Barnstormers jumped on Mark Rogers (1-2), who threw six no-hit innings against Lancaster in his last start, right away. Yusuke Kajimoto punched a leadoff single into left center field and stole second. Chevy Clarke drew a walk to fill in first, and Gailen took the first pitch he saw from Rogers and rode it high into the right center screen for a three-run homer and a quick 3-0 lead.

Brian Cavazos-Galvez opened the third with a double and stole third. Lance Zawadzki picked up a walk and swiped second. Cavazos-Galvez crossed the plate on a wild pitch, and Zawadzki headed home on a line drive to left by Juan Apodaca for a 5-0 lead.

Cavazos-Galvez and Apodaca teamed up again in the fifth on a walk, stolen base and Apodaca's double to the gap in right center.

Lancaster stranded seven runners over their final three innings without scoring again, keeping the Ducks in the game.

Long Island reached Dan Osterbrock (2-1) for a single run in the third. Lew Ford, who went 4-for-4, doubled over Clarke's head in center and eventually crossed from third when Jon Griffin looped a single into shallow center.

Ford drove in the other run, chasing Bryan Sabatella home with a two-out single up the middle in the seventh.

The series continues on Saturday night as Marcus Walden (0-1) gets the nod for the Barnstormers against Mickey Jannis (1-2). Doll T-shirts will be handed out to the first 1,000 youngsters passing through the gates, and fireworks will follow the game. Fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN; rumba1390.com and the I Heart Radio cell phone app, beginning at 6:45.
