Bluefish Take Series From Ducks

(Bridgeport, Conn.) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (10-8) defeated the Long Island Ducks (10-10) 9-7 at .Bethpage Ballpark in Central Islip, New York on Thursday night in a game that saw a combined total of twenty five hits and four home runs. The 'Fish have now won five of the first six head-to-head games in the 2015 installment of the Ferry Cup Series.

Starting Pitcher Cory Riordan was tagged with the no-decision after going four and two-thirds innings, allowing ten hits and six runs, walking one and striking out one. Erik Draxton (1-0) was credited with the victory in relief, pitching one-third of an inning, allowing one hit. Bridgeport finished their six-game road trip winning their final two games, and have now won ten of their last sixteen games overall.

The 'Fish erased a 1-0 deficit in the top half of the second inning, scoring three runs to take the lead. An RBI double by Ryan Babineau scored John Alonso with the first run, who reached on a two-base throwing error by Ducks third baseman Cody Puckett to lead off the inning. Jovan Rosa's opposite-field run-scoring single gave Bridgeport their first lead of the night, plating Babineau. Nick Van Stratten laced an RBI single to centerfield score Rosa as the 'Fish put up a crooked number to extend the lead. With the score tied at three in the top half of the fourth inning, Bridgeport took the lead again, this time for good, on a three-run laser shot over the left field wall by Nick Van Stratten, his first roundtripper of the season, scoring Rosa and Luis Rodriguez in front of him as the 'Fish took a 6-3 lead. Van Stratten extended his on-base streak to a season high 15 consecutive games while driving in four runs on the night. Ducks Starting Pitcher Eric Niesen (0-1) suffered the loss, surrendering ten hits and seven runs (five earned) in five innings of work. Luis Perdomo closed the door on the flock with a scoreless ninth inning, striking out one, for his first save of the season. The Bluefish scored 18 runs on 34 hits, winning two out of three games in the series. The 'Fish have now had nine games on the young season in which they have recorded ten plus hits overall. Rosa led the way with three hits on the evening.
