(Bridgeport, Conn. - May 15, 2015) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (11-8) erased two three-run deficits and pounded out 12 more hits to defeat the Camden Riversharks (11-10) 8-6 at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Friday night in the opening game of a four-game weekend series in battle of Liberty Division foes. The 'Fish have now won 11 of their last 17 games overall, and were victorious for the seventh time in their last eight in front of the home crowd.
Starting Pitcher Parker Frazier picked up the no-decision after going five and one-third innings, allowing ten hits and five runs. Erik Draxton (2-0) won for the second time in as many nights out of the bullpen, pitching one and one-third innings, giving up one hit and striking out one. It was the tenth time in nineteen games this season that the Bluefish recorded ten or more hits in a game.
In the bottom half of the first inning and the Bluefish down 3-0, Nick Van Stratten led off with a single, extending his on base streak to a season-high 16 consecutive games. Van Stratten would score on a hit and run single to left field by Sean Burroughs after Stephen Bull booted the ball for the error. Burroughs would score on an RBI single by John Alosno to cut the deficit to 3-2. The 'Fish were down 5-2 in the bottom half of the fifth inning but would tie the game sending eight batters to the plate. Van Stratten would score the tying run on the second error of the game by Camden third baseman Mike Costanzo on a ground ball hit by Alonso. The 'Fish took the lead for good in the bottom half of the sixth inning as James Simmons would score on a wild pitch and Van Stratten would come home on an RBI single by Burroughs to make the score 7-5. Starting Pitcher Sean Gleason (1-2) suffered the loss for Camden, pitching six innings, giving up seven runs (three earned), walking two and striking out three. Welington Dotel led the way with four hits.
The 'Fish play a day/night doubleheader tomorrow at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard against the Camden Riversharks. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. for game one and 6:05 p.m. for game two.
