Camden Riversharks News Release
Camden, NJ - The Riversharks bats went silent in a 8-3 loss to the York Revolution in the final game of a three-game series. Revolution starter Anthony Lerew threw five innings of shut-out baseball in the win.
Lerew allowed only two walks and three hits in his start. His offense attacked Riversharks (11-9) starter Wes Torrez early on when Revolution (8-12) catcher Salvador Paniaguna brought in two runs on a single in the second inning.
A key for the Revolution offense was getting the lead-off batter on base, as the team accomplished this six out of the nine innings played.
On the opposite side, the Riversharks struggled with men on-base, stranding six potential scoring opportunities before breaking out in the eighth inning when Carlos Guzman drove in Brandon Chaves with a one-out single to break the shutout.
The Riversharks mounted a small rally in the ninth but would not be able to overcome the seven-run deficit. After Joel Guzman grounded out to third, Nathaniel Coronado reached on an error by the right fielder. Stephen Bull followed with a single to score Guzman from first base. Michael Rockett followed with a single to make it runners on first and second with one out.
After a Chaves strikeout, Dan Hennigan singled to right field, but Rockett was thrown out at third base to end the game.
Riversharks starter Torrez registered a quality start only allowing three runs, six hits and two walks while picking up six strikeouts in the process.
Andres Perez was the key cog in the York offensive attack going 4-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored. His teammate Brandon Boggs went 2-5 and knocked in two runs while scoring three.
The Riversharks dropped this series to the Revolution only taking one of the three game set. They will now be on the road starting a three-game series with the Bridgeport Bluefish. Last series with the Bluefish was the Riversharks' opening series when they took two of three games.
