Long Island Ducks News Release
(Lancaster, Penn., May 14, 2015) - The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Lancaster Barnstormers 6-2 on Friday night in the opener of a four-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
The Barnstormers took a 3-0 lead in the first inning on a three-run home run to right-center field by Blake Gailen off of Ducks starter Mark Rogers. Two more runs in the third on a wild pitch from Rogers and a sacrifice fly to left off the bat of Juan Apodaca extended the advantage to five.
Long Island plated its first run of the game in the fourth on a RBI single to center by Jon Griffin off of Lancaster starter Dan Osterbrock. However, a RBI double by Apodaca in the fifth pushed the lead back to five at 6-1. Lew Ford punched a two-out RBI single to center in the seventh, but that was as close as the Ducks would come.
Osterbrock (2-1) earned the win, tossing six innings, allowing one run on seven hits and two walks with one strikeout. Rogers (1-2) suffered the loss, giving up six runs on six hits and five walks while striking out four in five innings.
Ford led the Flock with his second four-hit game of the week, while Griffin added two for his second consecutive multi-hit game.
Long Island and Lancaster continue their four-game set on Saturday night. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m. from Clipper Magazine Stadium. Right-hander Mickey Jannis takes the mound for the Ducks against Barnstormers righty Marcus Walden. Fans can follow all the action live on the Ducks' flagship radio station, 103.9-FM LI News Radio.
