Barlow, Evans Promoted to Double-A Frisco

Kinston, N.C. - Relief pitchers Joe Barlow and Demarcus Evans have been promoted from Advanced-A Down East to Double-A Frisco, the Rangers announced today.

The pair of right-handers join Emmanuel Clase, Peter Fairbanks, and Tyler Phillips as Wood Ducks to receive promotions this year.

In 17 appearances for Down East this season, Barlow posted a 4-0 record and an ERA of just 0.38. He struck out 44 in 23.2 innings, while opponents batted just .132 against him. The Riverton, Utah native also earned four saves in five opportunities for the Wood Ducks. An 11th round draft pick in 2016 out of Salt Lake Community College, Barlow struck out multiple batters in 14 of his 17 outings, including a season his five strikeouts in two scoreless innings against Winston-Salem on May 19.

Evans was just as dominant in relief this season. He fanned 40 batters in 22.1 innings, over 17 appearances, pitching to a 4-0 record and an ERA of 0.81. The Petal, Mississippi native recorded six saves in eight opportunities, while opponents hit just .127 against him. A 25th round selection out of Petal High School in 2015, Evans struck out multiple batters in 13 of his 17 appearances, including a season-high six strikeouts in two innings against Potomac, May 15, earning the win. Evans was also named the Rangers Organization Reliever of the Year last season.

After an off day on Tuesday, the Woodies return to Grainger Stadium tonight to face off with the Salem Red Sox, beginning with a 7 p.m. Right-hander Jason Bahr (3-1, 1.99) will make the start for the Woodies, opposed by Salem righty Kutter Crawford (3-3, 3.23).
