Frederick Keys News Release

FREDERICK, MD. - An eight-run, sixth inning buried the Frederick Keys (25-25) in a 12-3 loss to the Lynchburg Hillcats (26-24) on Wednesday night at Nymeo Field. The Hillcats tallied six hits in the inning, including a grand slam from Nolan Jones. The eight-runs were the most giving up by Frederick pitching in an inning this season, while it marked the biggest frame offensively for Lynchburg this year. Yusniel Diaz went 2-4 with a walk in his first game since April 25 when he suffered an injury playing with Bowie.

The Keys found themselves trailing the Hillcats two batters into the game as Jodd Carter hit a two-run home run to put Lynchburg ahead 2-0. In the fourth, Zach Jarrett cut the lead in half with a solo home run to left field and the Keys tied it 2-2 in fifth on an RBI groundout from Jomar Reyes.

The Hillcats then tallied eight runs on six hits in the sixth inning. They also benefited from a passed ball that scored a run and three walks that loaded the bases for Jones, whose grand slam gave Lynchburg a 10-2 lead.

Cameron Bishop (0-3) left with two runners on, one-out and the game tied in sixth inning. He was dealt the loss after allowing four runs and walking three batters, but he pitched well outside the Carter home run. Bishop struck out five and retired the side on two separate occasions.

Cameron Ming came in relief of Bishop and struggled. He was charged with six runs on five hits and recorded just one-out.

The Keys tallied a run in the bottom of the sixth as Jarrett scored on a wild pitch to make it 10-3. That was the final pitch for Matt Solter (4-0) who won his fourth straight game with Lynchburg. He gave up three runs on five hits, walked six batters and struck out a pair in 5.2 innings.

Jose Vincente put the final touches on the win with a monster two-run home run in the ninth.

The Keys and Hillcats play a pair of games on Thursday, May 30. LHP DL Hall (1-2, 4.50) and RHP Justin Garza (3-3, 4.97) will start in game one while RHP David Lebron (2-0, 3.21) takes the hill against LHP Anderson Polanco (0-1, 3.38) in game two.
