Portland, Maine - Jeremy Barfield smashed a solo homer over the Maine Monster in the bottom of the eighth and the Sea Dogs (51-57) took the rubber match over the Richmond Flying Squirrels (47-62) 11-10 on Thursday afternoon at Hadlock Field.

With the bases empty and two-out in a 10-10 game, Barfield came up and sent an 0-1 pitch from Seth Rosin (L, 1-1) well into the woods beyond the left field wall for his team-leading 19th home run of the season.

Taylor Grover (3-5) earned the victory with two scoreless, hitless innings of relief while striking out four. Bobby Poyner collected his fifth save with a perfect ninth.

Portland jumped out to a 6-1 lead after three innings thanks to a two-run homer by Michael Chavis and a grand slam by Henry Urrutia, both off Squirrels' starter Nate Reed.

The homer by Chavis was his 10th of the season with Portland and 27th overall of the year, tying him for the minor league lead.

Richmond came roaring back with eight runs off of Teddy Stankiewicz in the fourth inning. The Flying Squirrels sent 12 men to the plate and cracked eight hits in the inning, with the major blow a three-run triple by Caleb Gindl to run Stankiewicz out of the game.

Stankiewicz and Reed allowed nine and 10 runs respectively in their starts.

The Sea Dogs reclaimed the lead after sending all nine to the plate in the fifth and scoring four runs on five hits.

Richmond tied the game 10-10 in the sixth on an RBI single by CJ Hinojosa off of Josh Smith.

The Sea Dogs open up a three-game series with the Bowie Baysox (Orioles affiliate) on Friday night at Hadlock Field, first pitch is 7:00 PM. LHP Dedgar Jimenez (2-0, 3.60) makes the start for Portland. Bowie counters with RHP Jesus Liranzo (1-3, 5.09). Tickets are available at seadogs.com or 207-879-9500.
