
Portland, Maine Native Ryan Flaherty to Rehab at Hadlock Field

PORTLAND, MAINE - The Baltimore Orioles have announced that Portland, Maine native Ryan Flaherty will continue his Major League Assignment with the Bowie Baysox. The Sea Dogs will be hosting the Baysox this weekend (Friday-Saturday) at Hadlock Field. Flaherty is expected to play Friday and Saturday.
The 31-year-old Flaherty, was placed on Baltimore's 60-day disabled list with a right-shoulder strain on May 10. In 13 games with the Orioles this season, Flaherty hit .233 (7-for-30), 3 RBI and a double. Flaherty began his rehab assignment with Bowie on July 27-30, hitting a two-run homer on July 29th vs. Akron. The Maine native also spent three days with High-A Frederick from July 31-August 2, hitting .222 (2-for-9) with 4 walks.
Flaherty attended Deering High School where he was named the Maine Gatorade High School Player of the Year as a senior. Ryan lettered in baseball, basketball, captained the football team and was a finalist for the Fitzpatrick Trophy and led Deering to the 2003 state championship.
Originally drafted 41st overall in the 2008 draft by the Cubs, Flaherty was taken by Baltimore in the MLB Phase of the 2012 Rule 5 Draft. Flaherty has spent six years (2012-17) in the Major Leagues, all with the Baltimore Orioles. He's appeared in 442 games with 35 career homers, and nine hits in the post-season. His first Major League homer was May 10, 2012 off Texas' Colby Lewis at Camden Yards. Flaherty and current Sea Dog Henry Urrutia were teammates in 2013.
