Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
Peoria, IL - The Quad Cities River Bandits were limited to just three hits in a series-opening 2-0 loss to the Kane County Cougars at Peoria's Dozer Park on Thursday night. The entire series was relocated from Modern Woodmen Park due to a lack of access to the ballpark
Kane County (9-6) did all of the damage in a four-hit second inning. Zac Almond led off with a double into the right field corner and advanced to third on a base hit to center by Alex King. Nivaldo Rodriguez rebounded with a strike out of Eddie Hernandez for the second out of the inning. The next two hitters, Jose Herrera and Jorge Perez, came up with RBI singles into left allowing the Cougars to score the only runs of the night.
The River Bandits (7-6) did not register a hit until there were two outs in the sixth inning on a Marty Costes triple. Quad Cities could not cash in on that threat and also came up empty with the bases loaded in the eighth. Those were the only two innings in which the Bandits tallied a hit.
Rodriguez took the loss after allowing two runs on six hits over 5.0 innings. R.J Freure was stellar in relief, tossing 3.2 scoreless innings and striking out nine. The right-hander allowed just one hit.
Jojanse Torres recorded the final out in the top of the ninth inning.
The River Bandits and Kane County meet again inside Dozer Park at 6:35 p.m. on Thursday night. The entire series was moved from Modern Woodmen Park due to limited access to the stadium. RHP Cody Deason (0-1, 7.50) will start for the Bandits against Cougars LHP Bryan Valdez.
All River Bandits games are broadcast on 1170 K-BOB and TuneIn Radio. Home games are also available with video on MiLB.TV.
