Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

DAVENPORT, Iowa - The Quad Cities River Bandits fell behind 3-0 in the fourth and were only able to come back with one run. The Bandits tried to even things up after pitcher Deryk Hooker and manager Johnny Rodriguez were ejected following a hit batter after a warning had been issued during the sixth inning, but fell short scoring just one run in the 3-1 loss.

Shelby Miller threw just 2.2 innings for Quad Cities, he surrendered just one hit and fanned two in his first appearance since May 29. Deryk Hooker (3-3) was charged with his third loss of the season after he allowed three runs, two earned on just two hits in three innings of work. Dan Calhoun and Jesse Simpson combined for the final 3.1 innings allowing just one hit.

Despite out-hitting the Cougar 6-4, the Bandits could only plate one. Niko Vasquez went 1-for-4 with a double in the sixth and later scored on a RBI single by Matt Adams. Adams was 2-for-4 and was the only player to have a multi-hit game for either team.

Rob Gilliam (4-5) earned the win going 5.1 innings for Kane County. He allowed just one run on three hits and fanned eight Bandits in his fourth victory. Jose Guzman picked up his eighth save of the season pitching a scoreless ninth.

The River Bandits look to officially clinch a playoff spot on Friday night when they travel to Peoria to take on the Chiefs in their final series of the first half. The Bandits will send Midwest League All-Star Eric Fornataro (5-4) to face off with fellow right-hander Ryan Searle (2-1). Game time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in Peoria, Illinois.
