Hal McCoy on Friday's Dragons TV Broadcast

Dayton, Ohio-Hall-of-Fame writer Hal McCoy will serve as the guest television commentator Friday night when the Dayton Dragons host the Great Lakes Loons at Fifth Third Field. The game can be seen on WHIO Digital Channel 7.2 (Channel 23 on Time Warner basic cable systems). Dragons Director of Broadcasting Tom Nichols will handle the play-by-play. The broadcast will begin at 7:00 p.m.

McCoy was the 2002 winner of the J. G. Taylor Spink Award, an honor awarded annually by the National Baseball Hall-of-Fame for "meritorious contributions to baseball writing." McCoy covered the Reds for the Dayton Daily News from 1972-2009 and is credited as the writer who coined the phrase "Big Red Machine." He continues to cover the Reds through his blog, "The Real McCoy," available at www.daytondailynews.com and other locations.

McCoy will entertain fans on Friday night with his memories of the Reds teams during the 39 years in which he covered the club. He will also discuss the 2010 season and baseball issues of today.

The Dragons play at Fort Wayne tonight at 7:05 p.m. They host Great Lakes Friday, Saturday (7:00 p.m.) and Sunday (2:00 p.m.) to conclude the "first half" of the Midwest League's split-season format. Saturday's game will also be televised. Former Reds Assistant Director of Player Development Grant Griesser will provide commentary.
