Utah Grizzlies News Release
Bakersfield, California - The Bakersfield Condors defeated the Utah Grizzlies 5-3 Saturday night in Bakersfield.
Jamie MacQueen, in his return to the Utah lineup from the AHL, added his team leading seventh and eight goals of the year in the losing cause for Utah. MacQueen was in the lineup less than two hours after landing in Bakersfield to rejoin the team.
The Grizzlies were never able to get going in a contest that started with a brawl 4 seconds in as Utah's Norm Ezekiel and Bakersfield's Cameron Abney initially dropped the gloves and soon all ten skaters on the ice were engaged. Utah's Channing Boe and Kris Hogg were given game misconducts as a result and disqualified from the game, despite Utah being awarded a power-play on the situation.
Bakersfield took a 1-0 lead 3:17 into the game before Utah tied it up around the halfway point of the period on a blast from Mathieu Aubin with assists going to Michael Pelech and D.J. Jelitto. Utah went down to 13 skaters to start the second period as Rylan Galiardi did not return following an undisclosed injury.
Bakersfield broke a 1-1 tie in the second with two goals in a 2:27 stretch, starting with a goal off a penalty shot and the Condors had a 3-1 lead. Utah made it 3-2 on MacQueen's first goal of the night as Martin Lee fed him on a breakaway with just 1:12 left in the second period and Utah was back in the game going to the third period.
In the third, Bakersfield tacked on two more quick goals, this time in 50 seconds to make it 5-2 from the 7:10 to 8:00 mark.
MacQueen scored on a tough angle from the side of the net to make it 5-3 with 20 seconds remaining.
Utah continues their road trip Wednesday, Friday and Saturday in Alaska. Face-off all three nights is scheduled for 9:15 p.m.
The Grizzlies return to Maverik Center Saturday, December 28 and Tuesday, December 31 at 6 p.m. December 28 is a post-game skate with the Grizzlies. For New Year's Eve, fans can take advantage of $2 Hot Dogs, $2 Fries, $2 Soft Drinks and $2 Draft Beers.
