San Francisco Bulls News Release
SAN FRANCISCO - The San Francisco Bulls (9-13-2-1) stormed back from a three-goal deficit to defeat the Stockton Thunder (12-8-0-3), 6-5 in a shootout, Saturday night at the Cow Palace. Brett Findlay scored the winner in the fifth-round of the shootout to help the Bulls win their Teddy Bear Toss game. Steven Tarasuk helped mount the third period comeback with two goals and an assist in the final period. Tyler Beskorowany came in relief in goal to earn the win, stopping 17 of 18 shots in regulation and overtime.
Stockton grabbed the 1-0 lead on a power play goal from Joey Martin. The tally came with 5:57 remaining in the first period, and was assisted by Corey Trivino and Matt Bergland. Just 1:27 later, Tyler Gron found the equalizer. He walked in from the right side and slipped it five-hole to make it 1-1, and unleash the stuffed animals. Brett Findlay was given the lone assist on Gron's team-leading 11th goal. Through 20 minutes of play shots favored San Francisco 10-8.
The second period was largely dominated by the Thunder. They began the period by scoring three consecutive goals from Alex MacLeod and two from Andrew Clark. J.P. Anderson was relieved following the fourth goal and replaced by Beskorowany. Captain Scott Langdon responded, scoring his third goal of the season with 3:23 remaining in the frame to cut it to a 4-2 deficit. Dale Mitchell and Dean Ouellet were given assists on the play.
The Bulls carried over their momentum and came into the third period guns a-blazing. Findlay scored from the slot at 3:57 to get the Bulls back within one. With 8:35 gone by in the period, Tarasuk had his point shop deflect by goaltender Brad Phillips to draw the score even at four. Tarasuk scored again on the power play with 6:04 remaining in the period to put the Bulls on top 5-4. But Mike Dalhuisen scored with just 1:43 remaining in regulation to tie the game at five and force overtime.
The action was just as intense and frenzied in extra time, but neither side could find the back of the net to end it. In the first four rounds of the shootout, Ouellet scored for the Bulls and Joey Martin for the Thunder. In the fifth and deciding round, Beskorowany stopped James Henry, before Findlay scored to secure the victory.
