Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

BINGHAMTON, NY - Three pitchers combined to allow a season-high 19 hits and 14 runs in Binghamton's 14-6 loss to the Bowie Baysox tonight at NYSEG Stadium.

B-Mets starter Tobi Stoner managed to get through five innings with only two runs on his tab before things unraveled in the sixth. With Binghamton trailing 2-1, Stoner allowed the first five he faced to reach safely; three of which came home to score.

Roy Merritt entered in relief and induced Xavier Avery to line into an inning-ending double play. The left-hander returned for the seventh and was tagged for three runs on five hits, all singles.

Bowie poured the offense on in the eighth. The Baysox racked up four more hits and five runs against Merritt. The Texas native set a new B-Met reliever high by allowing nine hits and eight runs before he was replaced by Brandon Sage.

Sage quickly allowed both inherited runners to score when Pedro Florimon took the lefty deep for a three-run home run. By the end of the frame, the Baysox had scored six runs and owned a 14-1 lead.

The B-Mets walked six times against starter Chorye Spoone, but could only collect one run against the right-hander. The B-Mets had the tying run on second in the sixth, but reliever Wynn Pelzer induced Travis Ozga to line into an inning-double play to nullify the threat. Ozga ripped one right at shortstop Florimon who stepped on second to double off Brahiam Maldonado.

For the second straight game, the B-Mets had a position play take the mound. Jose Coronado tossed a scoreless ninth inning in his pro pitching debut.

Binghamton's late rally of three runs in the eighth and two in the ninth was not enough.

The B-Mets (28-50) continue their series against Bowie tomorrow night at 7:05pm. RHP Matt Harvey (0-1, 7.71), the seventh overall pick in last year's draft will make his NYSEG Stadium debut against LHP Mike Ballard (3-0, 3.96). The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show begins at 6:50pm on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
