(Portland, ME)---Mark Sobolewski drilled a three-run homer and Anthony Gose also homered in a four-run fourth inning to tie the game, but Portland went on to a 10-6 win over the Fisher Cats on Thursday night at Hadlock Field.
Portland (28-49) opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning. Will Middlebrooks doubled and scored on a single by Oscar Tejeda to put the Sea Dogs up 1-0.
The Sea Dogs opened the lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the third inning. Mitch Dening homered to make it 2-0. Jeremy Hazelbaker singled and Tim Federowicz was hit by a pitch. The runners moved up on a wild pitch and both scored on a single by Middlebrooks (2-for-3, 2 R, 2 RBI).
Anthony Gose led off the Fisher Cats fourth inning with a home run to make it 4-1. Mike McDade singled but was erased on a fielders choice by Moises Sierra. After Travis d'Arnaud walked, Mark Sobolewski (2-for-4, 2 R, 3 RBI) homered to tie the game at 4-4.
Portland batted around in the the bottom of the fifth inning. Hazelbaker beat out a bunt single and Ryan Khoury walked. Federowicz (3-for-4, 2 R, 2 RBI) doubled them both home to put the Sea Dogs up 6-4. Middlebrooks walked, ending the night for Fisher Cats starter Robert Ray. Reynaldo Rodriguez doubled home Federowicz and Tejeda singled in Middlebrooks for an 8-4 lead.
Sea Dogs starter Stephen Fife (9-3) beat the Fisher Cats for the third time this season and moved into a tie for the Eastern League lead with nine wins. Named an Eastern League All-Star, Fife allowed six hits and four runs in six innings. He walked two and struck out one.
The Fisher Cats (46-31) scored a run in the top of the seventh inning. Sobolewski and Callix Crabbe reached on singles and Sobolewski scored on a groundout by Adeiny Hechavarria.
Portland added two runs in the eighth on a triple by Ryan Khoury and a single by Chih-Hsien Chiang and New Hampshire scored in the ninth on a home run by Ricardo Nanita.
The Fisher Cats continue the roadtrip in Portland on Friday night at 7:00pm. New Hampshire will start RHP Joel Carreno (6-5, 3.33) against RHP Brock Huntzinger (4-6, 7.03) for the Sea Dogs. Radio coverage on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Dick Lutsk begins at 6:45pm.
