New Britain Rock Cats News Release

NEW BRITAIN, CT - Harrisburg's Erik Arnesen hurled six shutout innings as the Senators blanked the Rock Cats, 6-0 on Thursday night.

Rock Cats starting pitcher Brett Jacobson struck out a career-high nine batters, but he struggled with control in the first frame. Jacobson hit the first batter he faced - Josh Johnson - with a pitch and then walked Derek Norris before allowing a single to Bill Rhinehart to load the bases with no outs. Jacobson came back to strike out the next batter but served up a single to Chris Rahl that scored two runs. Things only got worse for Jacobson when he misfired a throw to first on a pickoff attempt, allowing Rhinehart to cross the plate for a 3-0 lead. Jacobson issued walks to the next two batters to load the bases again but was able to escape the jam with a strikeout and ground out.

Rhinehart slugged a solo shot over the right field walk for the 4-0 lead in the second. Jacobson retired all three other batters he faced on strikeouts in the inning. From that point on, Jacobson regained his form that resulted in his 2011 Eastern League All-Star Game selection.

Jacobson (3-2) finished with four runs on five hits and three walks in 6 2/3 innings.

The Senators added another run in the eighth off of Michael Tarsi. Rahl tripled with one out and scored on Chris McConnell's two-out single to right field. In the ninth, Johnson led off with a double and scored on a bases loaded walk.

Arnesen (5-1) limited the Rock Cats to four hits while striking out five.

ALLSTATE PLAYER OF THE GAME: Senators RF Chris Rahl went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. He also stole a base for Harrisburg.
