June 30, 2011 - Eastern League (EL1)
Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY - Binghamton Mets starting pitcher Matt Harvey, the seventh overall pick in the 2010 draft, will make his NYSEG Stadium debut this Friday night against the Bowie Baysox, with another installment of the Toyota Fireworks Series to follow the game.
Harvey was selected by the New York Mets in last year's draft out of the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. He went 22-7 with a 3.73 ERA in three seasons as a Tar Heel. In 43 collegiate starts, Harvey averaged more than a strike out per inning, fanning 263 batters.
Following his selection in the first round last year, Harvey signed late and did not pitch in 2010. He made his pro debut this season with the St. Lucie Mets, leading the High-A affiliate to the South Division First Half title in the Florida State League.
Regarded as the fourth-best prospect in the Mets' system by *Baseball America, *Harvey jumped out of the gate by winning his first four games without allowing an earned run. In 14 starts with St. Lucie, the 22-year-old went 8-2 with a 2.37 ERA, averaging 10.9 strike outs per nine innings.
The right-hander looks for retribution against the Baysox after losing his Double-A debut to the club on Sunday.
First pitch for Friday night's contest is set for 7:05pm. To catch Harvey and the Toyota Fireworks Series, tickets can be purchased at the NYSEG Stadium ticket office, via the team's website (www.bmets.com), by calling (607)723-METS, or at the On Deck Circle team store in the Oakdale Mall.
