Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
PORTLAND, ME - Seth Lugo stranded seven runners over five scoreless innings and four relievers threw a blank frame apiece to led the Binghamton Mets to a 3-0 win over the Portland Sea Dogs on Sunday afternoon at Hadlock Field. Aderlin Rodriguez blasted his tenth home run of the season to highlight Binghamton's eighth shutout win and 11th straight victory at Hadlock Field.
Rodriguez wasted little time putting Binghamton on the board in the second. The first baseman sent the first pitch he saw off the video board in left-center for his third home run in seven games.
After Luis Diaz issued a pair of walks to start the third, Josh Rodriguez blooped an RBI single to shallow right. LJ Mazzilli came home a batter later on a wild pitch, giving the B-Mets a 3-0 lead.
Lugo worked into and out of trouble over five scoreless innings. The righty allowed a double and walked two before he left the bases loaded in the second. Marco Hernandez led off the third with a double and Jantzen Witte was hit by a pitch, but both were left aboard. Lugo worked around a single in a scoreless fourth and another hit in a blank fifth to cap his day.
The B-Mets bullpen carried the lead to the finish line. Beck Wheeler danced around a leadoff double to post a spotless sixth. Dario Alvarez extended his scoreless streak to 12 games with a shutout seventh. Akeel Morris tossed a perfect eighth and Jon Velasquez notched his 11th save with a 1-2-3 ninth.
Lugo (4-4) allowed four hits and stranded seven Sea Dogs over five blank innings to earn his second straight win. Diaz (1-8) was touched for three runs on six hits over six innings in his third career loss to the B-Mets.
The B-Mets (46-42) conclude their final series of the first half on Monday at noon. RHP Gabriel Ynoa makes the start against RHP Mike Augliera. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show can be heard starting at 11:45 AM on ESPN 1360 WYOS and the Binghamton Mets channel on TuneIn.
