Brendan Ryan's bases loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh inning gave the Thunder a 2-1 lead and the bullpen combination of Andury Acevedo and Mark Montgomery finished off the 2-1 win for the Thunder over the Richmond Flying Squirrels at ARM & HAMMER Park on Sunday evening.
Working against reliever Kyle Crick, Tony Renda (3-for-4, 2 R) led off with a single and promptly stole second base. With one out, Crick issued walks to Danny Oh and Rico Noel to load the bases for Ali Castillo who struck out. New York Yankee rehabbing SS Brendan Ryan then stepped to the plate and worked a five-pitch walk to force in the lead run.
Acevedo and Montgomery combined to allow just two walks over the final two innings to finish off the the 49th victory of the season for the Thunder.
Matt Tracy and Edwin Quirarte each threw six innings of one-run ball in a starting role on Sunday evening. Tracy allowed just four hits and one walk in his outing.
The Thunder have now played four straight one-run games and have gone 2-2.
Jake Cave extended his on-base streak to nine games with a walk in the first inning. Danny Oh extended his hit streak to eight games with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the second.
