Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
NEW BRITAIN, CT - Dustin Lawley launched his 11th home run of the season to highlight a four-RBI game and lead the Binghamton Mets to an 8-3 victory over the New Britain Rock Cats on Monday night at New Britain Stadium. Binghamton pounded out eleven hits to earn their fourth straight win and 17th in the last 20 games.
For the fourth consecutive game, the B-Mets cracked the scoreboard first. Binghamton loaded the bases in the second against Rock Cats starter Taylor Rogers and cashed in with two outs. Rylan Sandoval stroked a 3-1 pitch back up the middle, plating Brandon Nimmo and Travis Taijeron to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.
New Britain responded with one swing in the bottom of the inning. Reynaldo Rodriguez blasted the first pitch he saw from Rainy Lara over the left-center field wall for a solo shot. His 13th homer of the season cut Binghamton's lead in half.
Lara limited the damage to one run in the second inning and returned to post a scoreless third, working around a double and a walk. The righty struck out the side in order in the fourth, side-stepped a one-out single to post a blank fifth and avoided harm after surrendering two hits in the sixth.
Binghamton stretched their lead with more two-out production in the seventh. After Kyle Johnson was plunked with two outs and Dilson Herrera walked on four pitches, New Britain dipped into their bullpen. Jayce Boyd greeted Adrian Salcedo with an RBI single to left-center and Dustin Lawley capped the inning by ripping a two-run double into the left-field gap.
Lawley capped the B-Mets night emphatically in the ninth. Following a four-pitch walk to Boyd, the cleanup hitter crushed an 0-1 pitch from Jim Fuller over the left-field wall, for his second long ball on the road trip.
Lara (5-2) surrendered one run on five hits over six innings to earn his first victory since May 17. Rogers (7-5) allowed four runs on six hits over 6-2/3 innings in the defeat. Three B-Mets relievers combined to allow two runs over the final three innings.
The B-Mets (49-33) continue their four-game series against the Rock Cats on Tuesday night at 7:05 PM. RHP Hansel Robles takes the mound against LHP Jason Wheeler. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show, starting at 6:50 PM, can be heard on News Radio 1290 WNBF and on the Binghamton Mets Baseball Network via the TuneIn App.
