Eastern League Weekly Award Winners Announced

PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the winners of the Eastern League Player of the Week Award and Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the period of June 23rd through June 29th:

Portland Sea Dogs second baseman Sean Coyle has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of June 23rd-June 29th. The 22-year old batted .524 (11-for-21) with two doubles, one triple, two home runs, 12 RBI, seven runs scored, two stolen bases, seven walks and a 1.000 slugging percentage in six games for the Sea Dogs last week. Coyle, who is a native of Chalfont, Pennsylvania, had at least one hit in all six games he played in last week and drove in at least one run in five of those games, including finishing off his week by going 3-for-4 with a double and a triple while driving in five runs and scoring three in a 13-9 win at Reading on Sunday afternoon. The 5'8", 175 lb. slugger led all Eastern League players in RBI (12), batting average (.524), on-base percentage (.643), slugging percentage (1.000), OPS (1.643) and total bases (21) last week He was also among the weekly leaders in hits (11-2nd), runs scored (7-tied 2nd), extra-base hits (5-tied 2nd), triples (1-tied 2nd), walks (7-3rd), homers (2-tied 4th) and stolen bases (2-tied 6th). Sean, who is hitting .363 with nine homers and 38 RBI in 52 games with the Sea Dogs this season, was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the third round of the 2010 draft out of Germantown Academy in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania.

Casey Lawrence, a right-handed starting pitcher for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, has been selected as the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of June 23rd-June 29th. The 6'2", 170 lb. hurler started one game for the Fisher Cats last week and had a record of 1-0 with eight strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA. Lawrence, who is a native of McSherrystown, Pennsylvania, made his lone appearance of the week on Friday night in the second game of a doubleheader against the visiting New Britain Rock Cats and took a perfect game into the seventh inning of New Hampshire's 8-0 victory. He lost the perfect game on a pinch hit single by Mike Kvasnicka with two outs in the top of the seventh inning. Lawrence, who finished the game with eight strikeouts, got the next batter to fly out to finish off the first complete game shutout of his career. The 26-year old was one of only two Eastern League pitchers to throw a complete game shutout last week and he finished ranked among the weekly leaders in ERA (0.00-tied 1st), WHIP (0.14-2nd), and batting average against (.045-tied 2nd). Casey, who currently ranks eighth in the league with a 3.10 ERA in 14 games for the Fisher Cats, was signed by the Toronto Blue Jays as a non-drafted free agent out of Albright College on June 15, 2010.
