Austin Spurs Come Back to Defeat South Bay Lakers 128-124

CEDAR PARK, Texas - The Austin Spurs (21-14), presented by SWBC, came back to defeat the South Bay Lakers (14-22) by a final score of 128-124 on Thursday night at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park on Black History Night. Former Spur James Silas was honored at the game for his basketball career and community service.

San Antonio Spurs assignee Luka Samanic recorded his 12th double-double of the season, posting 17 points and 12 rebounds in 30 minutes, while Spurs assignee Keldon Johnson finished with 17 points in 27 minutes. Spurs assignee Chimezie Metu added 12 points and 9 rebounds in 26 minutes of play.

Quinndary Weatherspoon finished as the game-high scorer with 28 points to go along with 7 assists and 2 steals in 35 minutes. Daulton Hommes chipped in 23 points (8-11 FG, 3-5 3FG, 2-4 FT), 7 rebounds and 2 steals in 26 minutes off the bench, while Drew Eubanks finished the game with 16 points and 8 rebounds in 22 minutes.

With the score tied at five with 9:33 left in the first quarter, the Lakers proceeded to go on an 11-0 run to establish an early lead in the game. The Spurs immediately answered with a 16-5 run of their own, bringing them within two points (22-20) with 5:03 left in the quarter. The Lakers led by as many as 16 in the second quarter, but the Spurs ended the half on a 6-0 run to cut the Lakers' advantage to 68-58.

The Lakers held the lead for the majority of the third quarter, but a layup by Drew Eubanks put the Spurs up by one, 86-85, with 3:58 left in the quarter. The Spurs ended the quarter on a 10-2 run giving them a nine-point advantage going into the fourth. The Spurs led by as many as 14 in the fourth, but the Lakers answered with a 15-1 run, tying the score at 111 with 5:28 left in the game. The game remained close until the final minutes when the Spurs pulled away for the 128-124 victory.

For the Lakers, Pierre Jackson led the team in scoring with 28 points in 35 minutes while Devontae Cacok posted a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds in 24 minutes. Four other Lakers' finished in double digit scoring including David Stockton (22), Talen Horton-Tucker (20), Wayne Selden (16) and Reggie Hearn (10).
