DES MOINES, Iowa - In an NBA G League game that featured 17 lead changes and 17 ties and needed overtime, the Austin Spurs edged the Iowa Wolves, 118-115, on Tuesday night at Wells Fargo Arena.
Austin (5-5) split the series by scoring five points in the extra time while holding Iowa (7-6) to just two points in overtime. Former Iowa Hawkeye standout Joe Wieskamp made a pair of free throws for the Spurs' first points in overtime and Chris Walker followed with a layup that tied the game for the final time.
Jaylen Morris beat the shot clock with a three-pointer with 41.5 seconds left that proved to be the difference. On Iowa's next possession, Isaiah Briscoe's three-point attempt missed and after forcing a Spurs' miss with 8.1 seconds left, the Wolves didn't get off a final shot as the game ended when the basketball slipped away from Vincent Edwards.
Iowa forced overtime by scoring five points in the final 24 seconds of the fourth quarter as Matt Lewis first connected on a three and Walker's dunk. The Wolves had a chance to win in regulation with 1.3 seconds left but the inbounds pass from Briscoe to Walker sailed out of bounds.
Morris finished with a game-high 25 points and four of his teammates joined him in double figures. Wieskamp had 12 points, four steals, four rebounds and two assists.
Brandon Sampson led Iowa with 22 points while Brian Bowen II scored 20 points and pulled down eight rebounds and added four assists. Briscoe tallied 19 points and 10 assists while Edwards had 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Iowa plays next at the Memphis Hustle on Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. CT. Following Thursday's road game, the Wolves return home on Feb. 14 to host the Santa Cruz Warriors at 7 p.m. CT.
