Last time out...
The Freedom split a doubleheader with the Normal CornBelters on Wednesday, losing game one 1-0 in 10 innings and winning game two 6-1 behind a complete game from Chuck Weaver. In game one, Cameron Monger hit a solo home run in the 10th inning off Seth Harvey to give Normal the lead for good. Florence got on the scoreboard in game two in the bottom half of the fourth as Travis Weaver delivered a RBI single. Tied 1-1 heading to the bottom of the fifth in game two, Florence took the lead for good on a Collins Cuthrell RBI single. Frazier Hall walked and Sam Eberle was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Andrew Godbold emptied the bases with one swing of the bat, doubling into the left field corner and giving Florence a 5-1 lead after five. Rubino put a dent on the scoreboard in the sixth. The rookie out of Francis Marion University crushed a home run over the right field fence for his first professional hit. Chuck Weaver took care of the rest on the hill.
For Starters...
Tony Vocca makes his 22nd appearance of the season and his 7th start tonight. He is coming off a no-decision against the Washington Wild Things on July 31 as he went five innings, giving up two runs on six hits, walking three and striking out seven as the Freedom lost 4-3. Vocca faced Normal out of the bullpen on May 30, getting a no-decision in an 18-4 loss as he went 2.2 innings, allowing one run on three hits. A native of Cottonwood, Arizona, Vocca played his college ball first at Yavapai College, then the University of Utah and later for Minnesota State University-Mankato. He posted a 12-8 record and 5.21 ERA over the course of his four-year college career, also tallying 125 strikeouts in 140 innings pitched. In 2013, after his college days were over, Vocca pitched for the Prescott Montezuma Federals of the Freedom Pro Baseball League, a four-team independent league based out of Arizona. Vocca spent this past winter pitching for the Adelaide Bite of the Australian Baseball League.
