O'Fallon, Mo - The Joliet Slammers lost a pair of games to River City on Thursday, 5-2 and 7-1.

In game one, the Slammers (28-41) were shut down by Tim Koons (8-0), who went the distance for the win. He allowed 2 runs on 5 hits over 7 innings. He struck out 8. The only Joliet offense came courtesy of a Phil Bates 5th inning 2-run homer. Michael Carden (2-5) suffered the loss, allowing 5 runs on 5 hits over 2 2/3 innings. Dan Tobik did a great job out of the bullpen with 3 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit. A Brian Hansen 2-run homer and a Zach Kometani RBI double in the 1st was all the offense River City (37-32) would need.

Luke Crumley and David Kubiak each threw a scoreless inning of relief, after the game was out of reach. It was Joe Scanio's turn to dominate Joliet in the nightcap.
