Aviators Pull out another 1-Run Contest at Lake Erie

AVON, OHIO - The Rockford Aviators prevailed 6-5 in their series finale against Lake Erie Thursday. The team used a late-inning single from Anthony Renteria to down the Crushers for the 3rd consecutive game.

The Aves sent Payton Baskette to the hill to start. Baskette was tagged for a couple first inning runs, but Collin Shaw helped erase the deficit with a 2-RBI double in the 2nd. The Aviators would add 3 more on RBI singles by Brian Bistagne and Elijah Trail in the 3rd to get out to a 5-2 lead.

The Crushers would respond with 3 of their own in the 3rd though to even the game at 5. Baskette would find his groove though afterward, holding down the Crushers for the next 4 innings before exiting after the 7th.

Anthony Renteria would prove the hero in the 8th, driving in Elijah Trail from 2nd with a 2-out base hit to make it 6-5. Every run the Aves scored in the game came with 2 outs.

Roberto Padilla and Patrick Dolan would combine to throw 2 scoreless frames in the 8th and 9th, and the Aviators got the sweep of the originally scheduled 3 game set.

The team now returns to Illinois for a 3-game set at Normal that starts tomorrow at 6:35. Kyle Hassna is expected to start for the Aviators in Game 1 vs. the CornBelters.
