Last time out...

The Florence Freedom (38-46) scored five runs in the seventh inning on their way to a 6-5 win over the Southern Illinois Miners (50-35) Friday night. Trailing 2-0 entering the seventh, the Freedom got a pinch-hit lead-off double from Ryan Solberg. After Chance Ross was hit by a pitch, Rolando Gomez launched his third home run of the season to give Florence a 3-2 lead. Buddy Sosnoskie was hit by a pitch and Gaby Juarbe doubled him home for the fourth run of the inning. That was it for Southern Illinois starter Rick Teasley (9-5) as Hunter Ackerman entered the game. Cole Miles bunted Juarbe to third and Zak Blair delivered a sacrifice fly to extend the Freedom lead to 5-2. The Miners cut the lead to 5-4 in the bottom of the seventh on a two-run home run from Phil Butler. Each team scored one run in the ninth, with the Freedom getting a RBI single from Cole Miles, as Florence held on for the win.

For Starters...

Jorge Marban makes his third start of the season tonight and the third of his professional career. He is coming off a no-decision against Joliet on August 17 where he went five innings, giving up two runs on two hits, walking three and striking out seven. Marban's first start of the year was a dandy against Normal on August 10 as he went five no-hit, shutout innings in a win. 2014 is Jorge's fifth in professional baseball and third with the Freedom. The Miami, FL native was the closer for the Freedom the last two seasons. He was named a Frontier League All-Star in 2013 as Marban posted a 2.04 ERA and saved 27 games. Marban struck out 61 batters in 44 innings. In 2012, Marban was also effective in 36 bullpen appearances. He finished with a 2.44 ERA and 16 saves. In his professional career, Marban owns a 2.88 ERA and has struck out 184 batters in 156 innings entering the 2014 season.

Going for the series win...

With a win tonight the Freedom would win their fifth consecutive series and their second straight on the road. They took two of three from the Beach Bums in Traverse City August 13-14 for their first road series win of the season.

Save me...

With former closer Jorge Marban moving into the rotation, RHP Ed Kohout has picked up six saves in the month of August. The bullpen is 8 for 8 in save opportunities this month.

Extra Juarbe...

Gaby Juarbe picked up his first professional extra base hit last night, a RBI double in the seventh.

Mining...

The Freedom have a record of 3-4 against the Southern Illinois Miners this season.

Road woes...

The Freedom have a record of 10-23 on the road this season, the fewest road wins in the league.

Shut you down...

The Freedom tossed their seventh shutout of the year on Thursday. They are tied with Evansville for the second most shutouts thrown this season, trailing only...Southern Illinois. The Miners have tossed nine shutouts.

Excellent Eberle...

Sam Eberle leads the league in On-Base Percentage at .450 and has reached base safely in 26 consecutive games.

A Hot August...

This season the Freedom have already won more games in the month of August (12) than any other month this season.

Leading after six...

The Freedom have an impressive record of 29-5 when leading after six innings. However they are only 6-34 when trailing after six.
