Joliet Slammers News Release
The Joliet Slammers-Presented by ATI Physical Therapy-were postponed by the heavy rains on Saturday. The series in Crestwood vs. Windy City will wrap up now on Sunday with a doubleheader beginning at 3:05pm. The two 7-inning games will feature Slammers right-handed pitcher Andrew Busby in game one and then lefty Matt Costello pitching in game two. Joliet is coming off one of their best pitching efforts of the season by Kody McFarland on Friday. He faced the minimum batters in his 1st six no-hit innings. The no-hitter ended in the top of the 7th and he lasted 7 2/3 innings and struck out 11 batters in the win. Grant DeBruin had two doubles in the game and will enter Sunday's action with a league-best 117 hits on the season. DeBruin now has 26 doubles, third most in the league and his .348 batting average is second-best in the Frontier League.
The Slammers designated hitter Russell Moldenhauer sat out his second straight game on Friday with a sore ankle. He will likely miss Sunday's doubleheader as well. Reliever Jordan Wellander took himself out of Thursday's game with muscle soreness and will likely sit out Sunday's action as well. Moldenhauer, a mid-season All-Star, leads the team with 56 RBI and that is 7th best in the Frontier League. His 53 walks are 5th most in the league. Rightfielder Chris Epps had a 2-run single on Friday and has now reached base in 13 of the team's last 16 games and 20 of the last 25.
Joliet returns home for their season-ending nine-game home-stand beginning with a 2-dollar Tuesday on August 26th. Awareness Wednesday will be followed by a Thirsty Thursday that will also be JackHammers Day. So break out your old Joliet JackHammers gear and celebrate the beginnings of Pro Baseball in Joliet. Slammers action this season is broadcast live on 1340 WJOL and wjol.com. The audio/video feed of home games this season can be seen for free at independentprofessionalbaseball.com.
