River City Rascals News Release

Vincent Mejia became a hero for the Crushers Saturday night when he smashed a walkoff homerun off of Chandler Jagodzinski in the bottom of the 12th to give Lake Erie a 6-4 win. It was Mejia's second homerun of the game. His blast evened the series in Avon, Ohio and set up a rubber match for Sunday.

Tim Koons took the hill for the Rascals to start and really made just one mistake in five innings, allowing a solo blast to Mejia in the second. Other than that, Koons was good. He finished the night having given up just three hits and one run in five innings of work while striking out eight men.

The Rascal offense was unable to break through against the Crushers starter Zac Treese, but did tag his reliever Brad Zambron for two in the sixth. Joe Staley picked up those RBI by singling up the middle to score Johnny Morales and Eric Williams. Staley would add another RBI in the eighth, and heading into the ninth, the Rascals had a seemingly-comfortable lead of 4-1.

Gabriel Shaw came in to close it out for River City. Shaw struck out Mejia to start the inning but then surrendered a walk and a double to Emmanuel Quiles and Ryan Hutchison respectively. Quiles would come in on an RBI groundout by Joey Burney, but it seemed that Shaw still had things under control. Working with a 4-2 lead, Shaw got two strikes on Adam Ford before Ford took him out of to left for a two-run homer to tie the game. Shaw would return for the tenth inning and load the bases with no one out only to settle down and escape the jam to keep it a 4-4 contest.

In the twelfth frame, Chandler Jagodzinski took over for Shaw. He would get two outs in the inning before surrendering the two-run blast to Mejia that ended the contest. The Rascals and Crushers close out their series tomorrow afternoon in Avon. First pitch will be thrown at 1:05 pm ET/12:05 pm CT. Bryce Shafer is expected to go for the Rascals.
