Wild Things Defeat Grizzlies in Washington

WASHINGTON, PA - The Washington Wild Things put up four runs in the first inning and cruised to an 11-3 win against the Gateway Grizzlies Saturday night at CONSOL Energy Park.

Washington (51-34) scored four runs in the first inning, including three runs on a Scott Kalamar home run against Gateway starting pitcher Tyler Thompson (3-4).

The loss gave the Grizzlies (47-39) their fifth straight series loss and dropped their record to 14-20 since the all-star break.

Carter Bell drove in a run on a single in the second inning to push the Washington lead to 5-0.

Thompson kept the Wild Things scoreless for the next two innings before they put up six runs in the fifth inning. Washington scored three against Thompson and three against reliever Chris DeBoo.

Thompson allowed eight runs on six hits and five walks in four and a third innings.

Trailing 11-0, Gateway scored the final three runs of the game. The Grizzlies scored two runs in the sixth inning on a Michael Wing double and a Madison Beaird RBI groundout.

Garrett Vail hit his second home run of the season in the eighth inning.

The Grizzlies and Wild Things series concludes Sunday at Washington. Right-hander Daniel Cropper (6-7) makes the start for Gateway at 4:05 CST.
