Last time out...

Florence lost 4-3 to Washington on Friday. Up 3-2 headed to the bottom of the ninth, Ed Kohout (3-2) got the first batter out. But he surrendered a single to Matt Ford and walked Matt Peters. David Popkins singled to left and Zac Mitchell threw out Ford trying to score. Carter Bell doubled to tie the game and Andrew Heck hit a walk-off single. The Wild Things grabbed the lead in the third against Florence starter Tony Vocca. With two away Heck singled home a run and Austin Wobrock followed with a RBI single of his own to make it 2-0. Florence was held hitless by Washington's Ernie Zaragoza until the sixth. Daniel Fraga singled to start the frame. Mitchell drew a walk and one out later Sam Eberle singled to load the bases. Kyle Carter hit a game-tying double and Ozzy Gonzalez's RBI grounder put Florence up 3-2. The scored remained 3-2 until the ninth as Florence dropped their first game this season when leading after seven. Florence finished with only three hits.

For Starters...

Patrick McGrath is coming off his first pro start, a 3-2 loss to the Southern Illinois Miners on July 25. McGrath went four innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits, walking one and striking out one. McGrath led the Ohio Valley Conference in wins in 2015 with Belmont University as he posted a 9-4 record with a 4.40 ERA in 17 appearances, 13 starts. He garnered national attention when he beat SEC powerhouse Vanderbilt University twice.

A rare loss...

Last night was the first time this season the Freedom have lost when leading after seven innings. They are now 23-1 when leading after seven.

Trouble in Washington?

The Freedom have now dropped 4 straight games at CONSOL Energy Park going back to 2014.

A July recap...

July was the first winning month of the season for the Freedom as they finished with a record of 13-11 (including 8-4 on the road). The Freedom pitched extremely well in the month of July but struggled at the plate. Their team ERA in July was 2.55 (compared to 5.61 in May and 4.31 in June). But their team batting average was only .223 in July (compared to .239 in May and .263 in June). Florence's team batting average is now the second lowest overall in the league at .243.

Offensive woes...

Over the past 10 contests the Freedom have scored 3 or fewer runs in a game 8 times. Right now the Freedom only have 4 active players hitting over .250 on the season and none hitting over .300. The Big Three...

Sam Eberle, Daniel Fraga or Collins Cuthrell holds the team lead in almost every offensive category.
