ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, surrendered runs in each of the first five innings as the Rockford Aviators captured a 10-4 win on Saturday night at Aviators Stadium.
The Aviators scored in their first time at the plate as Michael Hur reached on an error and went to third on a sacrifice bunt attempt that stayed fair along the third base line, then scored on a Devon Rodriguez single.
Rockford added to the lead in the second by drawing a lead-off walk to Cody Lenahan, who moved to second on a fielder's choice and scored on a Collin Shaw single, then a Brian Bistagne base hit plated another run for a 3-0 advantage.
The Aviators pushed the lead to 4-0 with a two-out rally in the third inning consisting of a walk to Tyler Smith followed by a double to right center by Justin Fox.
The hosts extended the cushion to 6-0 in the fourth on RBIs from Danny Stienstra and Dusty Robinson.
The CornBelters broke through in the fifth inning with a lead-off walk to Cameron Monger and a double by Mark Micowski, with both driven in by a double from Santiago Chirino to the left field corner to cut the deficit to 6-2.
The Aviators countered with a solo home run in the fifth by Fox for his second RBI of the night to build the lead back to 7-2.
The Belters sliced the lead to 7-4 when Jim Vahalik flared a triple to the right field corner to score Ozney Guillen, who reached on a walk, then scored on a bad-hop single by Mark Micowski.
The Aviators padded their lead with three eighth-inning runs on an RBI single by Rodriguez and a two-run double by Stienstra for the final score.
