Owen Sound Attack News Release

The Owen Sound Attack is pleased to announce that the team has acquired defenceman Jay Gilbert from the Plymouth Whalers in exchange for defenseman Curtis Crombeen, a 2nd round draft choice in 2012 and a 3rd round draft choice in 2013.

Gilbert, a 6'02, 205lb rearguard has three goals and six assists in 40 games played this season and is a +15. In 142 Ontario Hockey League games split between Niagara and Plymouth, Gilbert has 5 goals, 21 assists to go along with a +16 rating and 121 PIMS. Gilbert was a teammate of Andrew Fritsch's and Andrew Shaw last year, as well as Shaw's first year in Niagara.

"Jay is exactly the type of defenceman we were looking for. He is a big, strong, shut down type of player that we were targeting.", stated Attack General Manager Dale DeGray. "He brings a wealth of experience and a player of his style will help us tremendously in the playoffs."

Going to Plymouth is sophomore defenceman Curtis Crombeen who was the Attack's first round draft choice in 2009. Crombeen, a native of Sarnia played 33 games for the Attack last year before the Holiday break, however; has been sidelined with a knee injury that was suffered at the World Under 17 Challenge. Crombeen appeared in 7 games for the Attack this season before having more work done on his knee.

"We would like to thank Curtis for his time here and wish him nothing but the best", said Dale DeGray. "Curtis has a very bright future and we hope he enjoys playing closer to his home town."
