
Otters Acquire 42-Goal Scorer Thompson from Sault Ste. Marie

The Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League have announced that they have acquired center Brett Thompson and a second-round pick in the 2011 CHL Import Draft from the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in exchange for left wing David Broll, a third-round draft pick in the 2013 OHL Priority Selection, a fourth-round pick in the 2014 OHL Priority Selection and a first-round pick in the 2011 CHL Import Draft. The announcement was made by Otters general manager Sherwood Bassin.
Thompson comes into Erie as one of the league's leading goal scorers with 25 tallies this season. Last season for the Greyhounds, Thompson amassed 42 goals, which was good for sixth in the OHL.
A native of Sault Ste. Marie, Thompson was originally drafted by the Sudbury Wolves in the fourth round of the 2007 OHL Priority Selection. The 5-foot-9 forward is a right-handed shot, and has 88 goals and 59 assists in 222 career OHL games.
Broll departs from the Otters after being selected with the 10th overall pick in the 2009 OHL Priority Selection. The Mississauga native had 22 points in 41 games with the Otters this season, and collected 17 goals and 23 assists in his 105-game Erie career.
The Otters head on the road to take on the Niagara IceDogs Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. They will return home for a $5 Friday to host the Barrie Colts at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. the London Knights come into town for Cowbell Night presented by Hungry Howie's Pizza and a post-game concert featuring The O'Needers presented by Erie General Electric Credit Union.
