And the Winner is... Your Kelly Cup Champions
February 29, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Allen Americans News Release
Allen, Texas - The Allen Americans were named the big winners in the Sports Day DFW Sports Oscars announced yesterday.
The Americans won in the Category of Best Picture, Best Team Dallas/Fort Worth. The nominees were; Texas Rangers, AL West Champs, lost in the ALDS. FC Dallas Soccer Club, won the MLS West, but was eliminated in the Western Conference Finals. Oklahoma Sooners Football Team, lost in the first round of the College Football Playoff.
"What sets the Americans apart from the rest was how dominant they were. Two years ago they were a part of the CHL before jumping up a level of competition with a promotion to the ECHL. Teams don't jump up a level in competition and win 48 of 72 games, but they did. They finished the regular season with 106 points (one off for the best in the conference) and wrecked their division." - Sports Day DFW
"We appreciate the support of the Sports Day and the Dallas Morning News," said Allen Americans Head Coach and General Manager Steve Martinson. "Both Rick Gosselin and Mike Heika have been big supporters of our team and have given us great coverage."
The Americans have qualified for the playoffs for all six seasons as a franchise and have won three straight championships, two in the now defunct Central Hockey League, and last season claiming their first ECHL Kelly Cup Championship.
