Eagles open four-point lead for final Western Conference playoff spot

Published on February 29, 2016 under ECHL (ECHL) News Release

With four straight wins, the Colorado Eagles have taken a four-point lead over Indy for the eighth seed in the Western Conference standings.

The Eagles swept a three-game series against Alaska last week, starting with a 4-2 win on Wednesday. Colorado scored three times in the final period to erase a 2-1 deficit with Ludwig Karlsson (1g-1a) and Channing Boe (2a) leading the way offensively with two points each. Kris Lazaruk stopped 33 of the 35 shots he faced to record the win in goal.

Friday saw the Eagles once again come from behind as they skated away with a 3-2 overtime win. Johnny Lazo tied the game midway through the second period and Adrian Veideman notched the game-winner 51 seconds into the extra session for his sixth game-winning goal of the season to lead all ECHL defensemen.

In the series finale on Saturday, Colorado scored twice in the first period only to see Alaska pull even with a pair of goals in the second period. The Eagles scored three times over the final 20 minutes to come away with a 5-2 win. Jesse Mychan paced the offense with three points (2g-1a) while Lazo added a pair of goals and Karlsson had a goal and an assist.

Trent Daavettila leads the Eagles, and is second overall in the league, with 60 points (18g-42a) in 54 games. Mychan has a team-leading 25 goals, which is third in the league. In addition to leading ECHL defensemen in game-winning goals, Veideman is tied for third among blueliners with 12 goals while he is tied for fifth with 32 points.

Colorado wraps a six-game home stand with three home games this week, hosting Fort Wayne on Wednesday and Sunday and Allen on Saturday.
